Bump Under the Rug

After two weeks, it happened again. The first time, I didn’t worry too much. Things have gotten much worse this time though.
My name is Alfred Sovek. I am a 60 year old man living in northern Germany.  I had just moved into my new home when it first happened. It was a normal house, in a normal neighborhood. Or so I thought. After two months of living in the house, it started changing. First it only was a bump in the rug. I looked under the rug to examine the strange bump. It looked just the same as the rest of the wood floor, only it was raised from it. I wasn’t sure how go about this, so I ignored it for awhile. Soon after though the walls started changing. I would wake one morning to find the walls caving in, the next to find the walls expanding out. More bumps appeared under the rugs and I could no longer just ignore the house. Lucky for me, a strange woman, Ms. Clover,  lived down the street. She said she specialized in potions and spells. Everyone said she was crazy, and crazy was just what I needed.
Late the next day I went to talk to her. I knocked on her door and waited a moment. “Hello.” I said after she opened the door.
“Morning, sir.” Ms. Clover replied.
“I was wondering if you could take a look at my house for me, it seems to be changing.” The calm expression on my face held it’s presence, even though she seems a bit alarmed.
“Changing? In what way?” She asked, giving me a look of curiosity now.
“Oh, just things like the floor having bumps, the walls moving.”
“Aw, well I will see what I can do! I’ll come over tomorrow and take a look.”
“Thank-” I started to say, before she shut the door. With that I left her porch and returned to my strange home, where the floor was now covered in bumps that I avoided stepping on as I traveled to my bed to get a night’s rest. The next morning I had just woken when I heard the doorbell.
“Morning!” Ms. Clover said with excitement as she stepped through my door. She set some books on one of my shelves before examining each strange curve in the wall, and each place the floor was raised. Was she was finished she took a seat and opened one of her books, after searching through her book for awhile she spoke. “Seems you have no ordinary house.”
“Is that so?” I replied to her obvious statement.
“I’ve come to the conclusion that your house has an infestation. Living beneath your floors and behind your walls are a rare creature. They have no official name but are referred to as husskapninger, Norwegian for house creatures. It seems you have many hus living in your home. With a simple spell I should be rid of them.”
After she told me this, she cast a spell and they were gone. My house had no more bumps and it returned to normal. Everything was fine, until it happened again. This time I had much more to worry about...

  1. Nice. Very descriptive. I've not read anything of such detail, writen by an author of such young age in years. I like it.
